Can I use other plugins with Apollo Just choose your apollo as your interface in Logic’s preferences. I like the UAD plug ins, which there are a lot of. There’s a helpful chart which shows what plugins take the most space, - a tip is to buy plugins native when available and use the UAD-only plugins on your satellite. Of course you can bus to a single track for economy.
#Can you use uad plugins without apollo mac
Goodluck.ġ) yes it works standalone and you can own/run the plugins in your DAW when your satellite is connectedĢ) It doesn’t come with a cable, you need to buy a thunderbolt cable - ģ) Unclear but as the Apollos are compatible I think so - would email them to check though!Ĥ) DSP is Digital Signaling Processing, basically offloads cpu from your computer (but your m1 Mac is so powerful it isn’t really a thing anymore) - it makes it possible to record without latency, but limits the amount of plugins you can use at one time which is annoying for mixing, good news is the satellite has lots to run on. The price is steep to get in to the UAD space and get a handful of plugins you see yourself using a lot, but I think once you get some and get some familiarity working with them, the results will speak for themselves. When I use Line 6 Native, I just plug my guitar into the Apollo, dont run any plug ins in the Console app to keep my guitar clean going in, then. I figured those would rely on the computers horsepower. I love the results from the plugins that come bundled (even though they do have better paid versions), and I've also purchased 8 others that I use pretty frequently. I figured, going in, that UA plug ins can take advantage of the Apollo DSP, but I never expected other brands plug ins to use the Apollo DSP. I think the conversion on these units are amazing for the price.

If you're planning on using a lot of UAD plugins in sessions and you're starting to run out of UAD juice, you'll need to render down audio with UAD plugins earlier in your chain and then you can disable that plugin freeing up resources again, but this is a fairly common thing to do for most workflows anyways.

Most of the plugins don't take a lot, but there are a handful that do get over the 50% threshold. note that the percentages you see only apply to one chip, for example, look at the first item on the list: the 4k Buss Compressor uses 3.4% of a single chip, and you've got 4 chips in the Quad you're going to get, so plenty of room to spare. and also provide this chart for your follow up question.
